Free-style training
Despite the great pic of someone throwing themselves off of a walkway, free-style training is not just free running. At Irrational this type of training is the label we give to our body weight, real world, do-it-anywhere training. Certainly parkour plays a role here, as learning to move through an environment with any kind of fluidity will certainly have a huge impact on one's training, however this heading is broader than that. This is a mix of plyometrics, intensity work, static holds, and general madness.
Tutorials
This is another area of the site that should act like a resource, providing links, and articles, and tutorials to the body-weight exercises needed to accomplish your goals. We certainly don't have anything to unique here, it isn't as if we invented the push-up. However, we do remind people to do their push-ups. Training being what it is, the capacity for body weight exercises to fix imbalances, and repair muscle damage is phenomenal.
Upcoming tutorials include:
• Push-up variations
• Fun with pull-up bars
• Jump work
• Bear fighting
We'll keep you posted as these all become available.
Parkour and Urban Running
For those of you in any major city it can be pretty easy to find a good group of urban runners. Here in Calgary there is a pretty phenomenal team that I have worked with. If you want to get some parkour specific training than they are the people to talk to. You can find them at www.nolimitsafc.com, and the boys (and girls) over there will do everything to help teach you how to flow, and teach you to play again while training.
